As the battle for Barking & Dagenham begins, a late Christmas present has been delivered to the British National Party by government.
It was revealed today that a scheme to relax immigration laws which will allow tens of thousands of unskilled workers to enter the country to build Olympic sites is being drawn up for ministers.
Migrant workers may be needed to complete the stadiums for the 2012 Games and also to work on separate engineering projects, Government advisers believe.
But the prospect of a new wave of immigration for construction schemes – at a time when the recession has seen nearly 200,000 construction workers laid off in the past year – provoked furious protests last night.
Projects which may need to draw in migrant workers – both unskilled and skilled – from outside Europe include the Crossrail tunnel in London, the High Speed Two railway line to the north, and the decommissioning of old nuclear and coalfired power stations.
Migrants may also be needed to prepare for a possible football World Cup in England in 2018, a paper drawn up by Home Office advisers suggests.
This scheme has been proposed even though the latest unemployment figures show 187,000 jobs have been lost in construction in the past year as unemployment hit almost 2.5million.
There are 70,000 unemployed adults in the seven East London boroughs closest to the Olympic sites.
As the BNP is targeting the white working class neglected by the Labour party, this new plan to import more immigrants and undercut British workers will surely help us when talking to people on the doorstep.
After all why people should vote Labour again when it’s introducing measures that are damaging them?
And what do Margaret Hodge and Jon Cruddas have to say about it?
Their silence on this issue speak for itself.
Antifascists are already planning to get active in the borough but clearly they will have a problem getting their message across.
They will argue that the fascist BNP is not the answer and that BNP councillors are useless but which party is allowing more foreigners in when plenty of Britons are unemployed and willing to do those jobs?
And which party is supporting the new equality bill that will force employers to give priority to women and ethnic minority applicants?
You have got the point.
This may explain why the Tories are upset by this proposal, clearly it will make it difficult for them to run a successful smear campaign against us.
This is why I see this plan as a welcome present for us.
Working class voters will be furious and as we know, angry people will make their feelings known at the ballot box, and could easily become BNP voters.
You couldn’t make it up.

Marvellous, bloody Marvellous. The words p**s up and brewery come to mind.
I have listened to many Builders complain about having to drop their prices and even some say immigrants have taken all their work when I say why don't you help us at the BNP they always say they are too busy. The truth is much of the time what they are really doing is standing with a pint of beer in their hand shouting and cheering at a load of foreigners kicking a ball so I don't really feel sorry for them I feel sorry for the Children who are too afraid to go to school because they are being bullied by ethnic knife gangs.
How our Government treats people is similar to how High Street Banks do.
Take for instance the constant advertisements for new customers for Banks, the free phone-lines with plenty of staff covering the phones, all beaming with how happy they are to be helping you.
You then fall for the pitch and end up nothing more than a number, either to be further exploited, or if you happen to be a oligarch, be wooed further with more ways to expand their ever-growing treasure-chest.
Our Government invites umpteen millions of people of various cultures, creeds and jungles, promising them the (British) earth while neglecting the ones who bloody live here! Well, not if your some oligarch of course.
