Johnston Press final salary pension scheme to close

Johnston Press final salary pension scheme to close

As all we nationalists know, regional newspapers are often nastier than national’  it would take too long listing all the lies printed with the clear intention of stopping people supporting the BNP.

They know full well that the BNP can ill afford to go to court as the cost of any legal action would bankrupt the party.

The good news is that those out-of-touch journalists are now facing hardship.

In fact regional newspaper publisher Johnston Press will close its final-salary pension scheme to existing members on 30 June.

The move is expected to affect around 15 per cent of the publisher’s 6,408 staff – around 960 employees.

The affected staff will be eligible to join a “money purchase scheme” when the final salary scheme closes, the publisher said.

The deficit of the final salary scheme, which is already closed to new members, had risen by £72m since 2002, the company said today, reaching £146m.

Johnston Press, which counts the Yorkshire Post and the Scotsman amongst its flagship titles, blamed rising costs for the closure.

John Fry, chief executive of Johnston Press, said: “Our main aim is to protect the benefits that are already built up in the final salary section of the plan.

“To do this we need to ensure that the shortfall is controlled and reduced and that we provide a pension arrangement that is competitive and sustainable for the company”.

This means that Johnson Press’ staff will bear the risk of any shortfall in the pension fund so that they will probably be forced to pay more money and/or get a less generous pension.

This is not an isolated case as very few companies are now offering final salary pension schemes, in which any shortfall in the pension fund is covered by the employers.

A similar decision was taken (as reported here) taken by the Trinity Mirror group a few months ago.

A decline in circulation is surely making this problem worse, and why are people not buying newspapers anymore?

We know the answer, don’t we?

If they started to give fair coverage to the BNP, nationalists would be more than happy to buy more papers but this will never happen as the National Union of Journalists will never allow it.

So let’s them give them a taste of their own medicine and make them pay the price for their arrogance and contempt for their readers.

Launch an effective campaign, starting with a public denouncement of the owners and the editors as public enemies. Name the names and hang them out to dry.

I think a lot of people are going to have to get used to the idea that there will be no pension waiting for them after 45 odd years of working. No matter how much they've paid in.

They have successive generations of corrupt LibLabCon governments they voted for to thank for that.
