BNP force Barking&Dagenham council to scrap union posts and save more than £300,000 a year

A few weeks ago on the main BNP website there was an article in which I explained how Barking & Dagenham council could save £52m in the next three years by eliminating wasteful expenditure without having to fire council workers, cutting essential services and slapping stealth taxes.

It seems my work started to bring some results as the Barking & Dagenham Post this week reported that Labour councillors are starting a review of those union posts.

Below there is the article published by the Barking & Dagenham Post.

Town Hall spending cuts have sparked a review into council-funded union posts tha cost the Barking and Dagenham taxpayers more than £310,000 a year.

The council’s Public Accounts and Audit Select Committee (PAASC) have asked officers to look into the authority’s funding of eight full-time trade union posts which cost the council £312,460 a year.

Three official from GMB, three from GMB Apex, one from Unison and one from Unite are paid to help negotiate conditions and pay for their members.

Employers don’t have to pay the wages of these posts but the funding has been a long-term agreement between Barking and Dagenham council and the trade unions.

Member of the local Liberal Democrats, Peter Brown, of Becontree Avenue, Dagenham, has criticised the link.

He said:”Only trade union “donations” prevent Labour Party bankruptcy, so they are hardly going to bite the hand that feeds them.”

But Labour councillors on the PAASC raised concerns in April about the relationship and about remuneration of trade union officials.

Cllr Darren Rodwell, who leads the PAASC, said:”We asked for more details to be looked at in light of all other cuts.

“If we are looking at have to close facilities in the community then we should also be looking at making sure that anything we don’t have to pay out for, we don’t pay out for.”

Dagenham MP Jon Cruddas, however, has defended the funding of the posts. He said:”Times are hard but the council has negotiated many recent changes with the unions to both save money and protect front line staff given the dramatic cuts handed down by the government.”

It remains to be seen if those union posts will be axed but the fact that the Labour party is evaluating this options shows that the BNP is still influential in the borough.

Councillor Darren Rodwell is well aware that many council workers are regular visitors of this blog and the main BNP website and as many of them are losing their jobs they realised that my proposals are based on common sense and they may have regretted voting Labour.

This may explain why Cllr Rodwell is following one of my suggestions to save money.

In the next few weeks we will see if my recommendation will be implemented.

I think the union bully boys might enlist a few of the knuckle dragging, shaven headed unwashed 'lumpen proles' to pay an early morning call on Cllr Rodwell.

Union reps of whatever stripe are paid a salary by the employer, they have what is called TOIL (time off in lieu) if they work outside their normal working hours, this is costing the employer money as the work they normally do is not done. Why should the unions not pay for any TOIL?
