Greenwich Branch held its first afternoon meeting on Saturday 14th March. It was felt that there may be many members who do not like to come out of an evening and so we decided to try an afternoon meeting which turned out to be a great success, encouraging many to attend their first BNP meeting, including many pensioners.
I opened the meeting by mentioning the sickening attack on one of our colleagues by Labour party supporters in Wigan but was fortunately able to balance this with the many good things that have happened since our last meeting and in particular local results in Bexley and Swanley.
Our fist speaker was Michael Barnbrook who is on the London list for the EU elections. Michael had intended to talk about the EU but had found his research so sickeningly depressing that he put together a list of facts and figures which he presented to us but said that the last thing he wanted was to depress people and so went on to detail his recent sleazebusing activities.
Next, our new organiser in Greenwich, Johnny Leech, explained to the audience how we need money to pay for leaflets etc if we are to run an effective campaign. He announced that we would be taking a collection and placed £100 of his own money on the table and invited others to join him which led to donations and pledges of £100, £80, £50 and various other amounts. By the end of the meeting of some 40 people we had raised in the region of £650 with more pledged and some big boxes of loose change still to be counted. I think we will be looking at over £800 for this meeting which puts up in good shape for our EU campaign.
Following a short break we were very pleased to welcome our main speaker for the day, Lee Barnes, the BNP legal specialist. Lee’s talk was as always, pasionate and from the heart. He talked about the betrayal of the British people by politicians and the media, the destruction of communities and what he BNP plans to do to rectify these things.
Lee covered so many subjects that I could not list them all but one thing is sure, he had the audience with him all the way and there was even a moment when a couple of the ladies had tears in their eyes.
In all this was a veru successful meeting and we would like to thank our speakers and all who came and supported this event and gave so generously.
