When looking at the headlines over the last few days, one would think Britain is on the brink of “Civil war”.
First we had the spectacle of clashes between right-wing groups on one side, and Muslims and antifascists on the other side in Birmingham, Luton and Harrow.
Then we have John Denham, Secretary of State for communities and local government, who warned there were strong parallels between those groups, which are planning protests in Muslim neighbourhoods, and Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists, who sparked fighting when they marched through Jewish areas of London’s East End in the Thirties.
Finally we hear that Police chiefs all around the country must be ready to brace themselves for a winter of race riots.
Clearly anyone supporting the British National Party feels vindicated, as this party has been saying for years, that allowing massive third world immigration against the wishes of native Britons, far from creating a vibrant multiracial society, would bring social unrest and increase the probability of a Yugoslavia-style’ civil war.
There is some truth in that, but something much more sinister is going on.
Let’s start by looking who those far-right groups are.
So far two organizations have been involved: Stop the Islamisation of Europe (SIOE) and the English Defence League (EDL).
SIOE is an alliance of people across Europe with the single aim of preventing Islam becoming the dominant religio/political force in Europe.
It originated with the joining together of Stop Islamificering Af Danmark (SIAD), a political party dedicated to stopping the Islamisation in Denmark, and a loose association of people in England, with a rallying cry of “No Sharia Here”who want to maintain English law and stop the creeping growth of sharia law in England.
It came to prominence a few years ago when it organized a demonstration in Germany attended by members of nationalist parties from all around Europe.
The EDL instead was created apparently, last spring as a reaction to some Muslims in Luton abusing British soldiers parading in Luton.
Since then they have taken part in several demonstrations, (some violent) against Muslims and the construction of mosques.
Mainstream media did their best to link the EDL to the BNP, but luckily this smear didn’t stand up to the evidence, as everyone knows the BNP doesn’t take part in demonstrations.
Nonetheless the emergence of the EDL is quite odd and many things about this organization are unclear.
Many describe it as a bunch of racist hooligans keen to use street confrontation to create trouble and challenge Islamic protesters.
Yet no one knows who the leader is, who organizes and finances them, and also why they are allowed to protest.
The Police put pressure on local authorities to stop the Red White and Blue festival and also used a drone to take images of BNP activists attending this event but, for some reason, didn’t use the same tactic against the EDL.
It’s true that protesting is a fundamental human right, but, if this action is the prelude to disorder then Police have the right to stop those events from taking place.
This is why the BNP refuse to take part in any demonstration, because we are well aware that our enemies will do their best to stir up trouble and destroy our credibility as a mainstream political party by giving the media more excuse to attack us.
However the EDL is allowed to take part in an event that could easily develop into violent clashes and increase racial tension but apparently the EDL are not bothered by the bad coverage they receive.
Another oddity is that, according to some articles, several Police forces are working together to investigate the EDL.
Now if it’s true that many EDL members are former hooligans, the claim that it’s difficult to work out who they are is a big lie.
All the football teams are heavily infiltrated and monitored in order to find out and ban violent football’ supporters this strategy has been very successful in containing hooliganism. So if EDL members are former hooligans they must surely be known to the Police. Also, is it a coincidence that at about the same time this movement started to get active, mainstream media began to raise the fear level of imminent race riots gripping the UK.
All the above may indicate that this EDL is a MI5/Special Branch operation, aiming to create instability so that government will have the perfect excuse to introduce emergency measures. Many may see this as another conspiracy theory but given this government’ penchant for spin and breach of our Civil Rights, this possibility should not be ruled out.
Labour ministers know that not only will they lose the next General Election but they may also be out of power for a very long time, if not forever. So emergency measures adopted a few weeks before the GE is called aiming to deal with Civil unrest may suit Labour very well.
If anyone is still sceptical about this, we suggest a look at the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, this allows ministers to order any sort of action by police, military or civil service. It gives them the power to order confiscation and destruction of private property without compensation; power to evacuate areas, impose no-go zones; and to ban peaceful protest. Moreover, ministers will have the power to suspend all primary legislation and to create criminal offences for failure to comply with the powers.
The draconian powers available under the proposed Act will mean that Government ministers can effectively crack down on any kind of civil disobedience they consider to be disruptive, they will effectively be able to seal off cities, impose travel bans, censor news media, and have all telecommunications cut off.
